Set a Stretch Goal

Olympians of a certain vintage can remember when The Clock was central to the message of what becoming your best meant at camp. The twelve hours of the clock are explained in detail in A Hero's Journey: Beyond Little Norway and Olympia Sports Camp.

To me the heroic journey begins at 2 O'clock,  with setting a Stretch Goal. Growth only happens when we challenge our comfort zone,  This can be as simple as setting a goal that is beyond what you know you can do at the moment. Enjoy the process of being comfortable being uncomfortable

I have established such a stretch goal.

This week my publisher, Friessen Press, named the book a best seller. Very cool thing to see in an email. To be honest I  don't even know what that means but it has helped me set a stretch goal.

To be  a national best seller. Heady goal indeed.

Part of me is scared to even type this goal, but I guess that is the uncertainty of exactly what setting a stretch goal is all about. The challenges to make this happen are awesome to overcome. We look forward to making this more of a possibility and less of a dream.

And in a true heroic journey, it is the pursuit of the goal and who we become along the journey that is most important. That alone creates motivation to just do my best and enjoy the process.

We need to spread the word about this story, and the stories of so many Olympia heroes . Remember to check out our website aherosjourney.ca

Embrace the Journey
