With the excitement of the book launch at Olympia this weekend I regret having to send you the following. 



Dear members of the Olympia Family

 

Calling on the legions of Olympians who feel a close attachment to the land of Interlaken, and a kinship with Dave Grace, the architect of so much success in many of our lives.


 



Dave Grace urgently needs our help, and he is fighting for the future of Olympia Sports Camp.

After struggling for two years because of COVID, a business agreement was made to support the camp through this period.  The terms of this agreement are now in dispute and litigation is required. The outcome of this litigation will impact the operations and ownership of the Camp. 

 

The litigation process will cost Dave $100,000 immediately. Dave cannot use money in the Camp’s account to fund the legal costs for this process. 

 

Simply put, if this money is not raised by Dave’s friends and family by October 16, 2022, Dave believes that the future of Olympia Sports Camp is at real risk. 

 

Dave really needs your help, and the funds raised will be given to Dave and used for his personal legal fees. 

 

Olympia and Dave have influenced thousands of lives over generations and now it is up to us to make sure the camp can influence and guide future generations. The amount may seem daunting, but any support will be appreciated.

 

It is heart warming to wake up this morning, getting ready to drive to Huntsville, and see that the fund is over $5,000 in 19 hours. Long way to go but we can do this...... HERE WE GO!

In the summer of 2019,  Blaine Scatcherd  was introducing himself at the opening meeting of week 5 and told the assembly of coaches that he worked as a counsellor at Olympia for 4 ¾ years. People who knew the story, including Dave Grace, roared with laughter at the self-effacing honesty Blaine showed when recounting an incident that may have been the worst in his career, yet a defining moment that changed him forever and made him a better teacher and coach, and a better person.    Blaine Scatcherd is from Ottawa, where he was coached in football at Glebe Collegiate Institute by Olympia coach Skip Riddell. They say that a picture tells a thousand words. How about two pictures? In the writing of A Hero's Journey: Beyond Little Norway and Olympia Sports Camp I got to interview a lot of people dedicated to Olympia and to the vision of Dave Grace.
