Olympia Sports Camp is a Place Where, but its a People Who

Olympia veterans of a certain vintage may recall a part of the Dave Talk where Dave used the teaching point he called The Echo. He taught us that whatever we do in life, whatever vibes we send out,  will come back to us, and quite often by a factor of ten.

The journey of writing A Hero's Journey: From Little Norway to Olympia Sports Camp is a case in point.

This undertaking is an awesome amount of work but the people I get to meet! The book will be filled with great stories not because I wrote them, but because of the subjects I get to write about. Any of us could easily make a very long list of absolutely awe-inspiring people that we've met through Olympia. I've had the opportunity to interview a whole bunch of them and I'm excited to see their stories, their own personal hero's journeys, in print. Let me introduce you to two of them.

Sierra Zicaro is a 13 year old with a great future. The people of Week 7 know her better as Driving Miss Daisy but she has been an Olympian her whole life, with a work ethic and sense of confidence that will take her journey to many great places and experiences. Yes that is a 13 year old who is helping mom and dad with tiling of their bathroom. Girl's Got Game!

The other one is Kevin Pangos. Also an Olympian since he was wearing diapers and rubber boots, Kevin learned from a lot of great people at Olympia, here with football coach Greg Marshall.  Kevin has used that knowledge, an incredible work ethic, and a great sense of spectacular team play to take his journey to carve out an All American career at Gonzaga and on to the professional ranks. Kevin right now is ranked 4th in assists in the entire Euro League but I'm sure Kevin will tell you that the best part of his season this year is having his wife Kate and their beautiful daughter Olivia with him in St Petersburg, Russia.

Every time I think of the great people who make up the fabric of Olympia Sports Camp, people like Sierra and Kevin, it all makes sense: Olympia Is a Place Where But a People Who

This blog is about the journey of the  writing of the book  A Hero's Journey: From Little Norway to Olympia Sports Camp. The blog will contain excerpts from the book and my personal thoughts on what the place and the people that make up Olympia's journey is all about. The title comes from the great book Tuesdays With Morrie, by Mitch Albom. The blog's title is recognizing Dave Grace as Camp Director but all content is my own.
