Last weekend I held a Book signing event at the Indigo Bookstore on Brant St. in Burlington. It felt like the start of getting A Hero's Journey: Beyond Little Norway And Olympia Sports Camp into the Big Stores. I love independent book stores, and they are a great way to enjoy the book-buying experience, but as an author I've always visioned, maybe in my dreams, seeing my book sold at places like Indigo. With the thousands of people who have attended Olympia and those who enjoy the philosophy of Joseph Campbell, a big store exposure would be awesome way to spread the word and for Olympia alum and others to get a book. I've been on Indigo.ca and that is great way to shop, big there's something about the brick and mortar franchise stores that attracts.
When you are on a journey, there are those who have inspired you to toward your goals. There also may be those around you whose love and support is all the inspiration you need to complete a task you set out to accomplish.
Case in point. My family. My growing family.
When I found out that the date for my book signing was in late July I knew it would be a struggle to get people to come in such nice weather and at cottage time, but my two kids made sure they were there. The support of Nicole and Daniel means a lot to wherever this book journey takes us. Joy is the rock of the family and her commitment to this process is unwavering. I'm a lucky man on a journey. The best part of the family gathering because of the book is that it was the first official public event for Mia Lillian Mayes, and she is what motivated me to write this blog entry.Any event will have highlights and I am going to do another entry about the arrival of a former student and athlete that came to support. When he walked in the goal of selling books became secondary to the moment of sheer excitement. Attitude is everything as we react to the world and the respect shown by one person can make the day if you let it. A family day; an alumni day. All thanks to embracing the journey. For those who couldn't make the event just drop me a line at coachdools71@gmail.com and I'll get book to you.
