The Relentless Pursuit of Better

Huntsville has the reputation of being one of those beautiful  Muskoka towns that is bustling in the summer with tourists from all over looking for the beauty of the Canadian Shield and the tranquility of lake / cottage life. Most may not know that Huntsville is also home to a world-class Sport Performance Lab that in the last few years has become yet another reason to take a look at sending your son/ daughter/ athlete to Olympia Sports Camp.

The best part of The Sport Lab in downtown Huntsville may be its very-Olympia- fitting motto:

"The Relentless Pursuit of Better."

Dr. Lowell Greib, seen cheering for one of his athletes, is an avid ultra-distance athlete and naturopathic doctor who opened his clinic in his hometown of Huntsville in 2011. The goal was to help Muskoka's athletes and active community with high-quality sports therapy. Through decades of professional experience Dr. Greib and his technicians have used a unique approach to get injured people back being active, with an understanding that  an injury should only ever be a small pause on the long road to achieving a personal best.

The Sports Lab also offers advice and professional diagnosis in the areas of Sports nutrition, and sports psychology, as well as techniques to help with physical performance parameters like speed, endurance, body awareness and hand-eye coordination.

This is an elite program for athletes and active people who are looking for...the relentless pursuit of better.

A couple of years ago Dr. Greib was looking to share this program with a unique, camp based program and approached Dave Grace at Olympia. It seemed to be a perfect fit for the philosophy of Olympia and the Hero's Journey. He was right.

Offered during week 8 for the last two years, the SportLab Performance Program has offered an elite program for those campers looking for an edge in their pursuit of being the best they can be, no matter the sport or activity. I quote from the SportLab website:

It takes a lot more than exceptional talent to become an Olympian! With our ever
growing knowledge of athlete development and now the integration of technologies,
there are many other attributes that contribute to the greatness of elite athletes.

The SportLab’s clinicians have been privileged to work with some of the most decorated athletes in the world. With athlete representation in 10 Olympic Games and dozens of World Cups/Championships, they have learned what it takes to be elite.

Dr. Greib's vision was to offer the elite information and techniques that will give the athlete the tool box to pursue...Better...

He comes to the program after his own journey through competition and education. Dr Greib is an accomplished athlete, speaker, professor, and practitioner. He raced as a professional ultra-distance mouton biker  while completing both his degree in Biochemistry/ Biotechnology, and his graduate research in analytical chemistry at the University of Waterloo. During his 4 years of medical training at the Canadian College of Naturopathic Medicine, he founded (and subsequently directed) the Sports Medicine Program for the college, now widely accepted as the gold standard for naturopathic Sport Therapy training across Canada.

With all this background Dr. Greib knew he needed  an elite team of clinicians and guests to offer a combination of science, medicine, and sport to make the program work

One of those guests that has been there from the beginning has been one of Canada's best Mixed Martial Artists, another Huntsville-born hero; Kyle Nelson. Each clinic brings their own style and personal expertise to camp and Kyle has been involved with educating the athletes in hand/eye coordination, quickness of movement and body positioning.

Kyle started fighting MMA in 2012 and in 2016 he won the Elite 1 MMA Featherweight championship. He moved to UFC about five years ago and has an overall record of 16 wins and 5 losses. One of those wins took place this March in Atlantic City and the story has a real Olympia family aspect to it. While in Atlantic City for fight week his wife was giving birth to their third child, perhaps a future Olympian.

This program will bring out the elite, run by elite for those looking for deeper understanding of their athletic potential.

Just another great reason to check out Olympia Sports Camp. You get to meet world class athletes and world class clinicians.

A Hero's Journey: Beyond Little Norway and Olympia Sports Camp is filled with stories about heroes and their journeys. We envision the OAA as a way to share many more hero's journeys and for all alumni to have a vehicle to stay in touch.

 ALUMNI ASSOCIATION

The OAA needs your help.  If you are an Olympia Sports Camp Alumni we need you to register for the OAA and get those in your circle of Olympia contacts to do the same. The link is at:
