The  50th Anniversary weekend  at Olympia Sports Camp is just around the corner (May 19-22) and should be a great reunion of many Olympia Heroes. The history of the camp is filled with stories of the impact that so many people have had on our journeys. The book A Hero's Journey: Beyond Little Norway and Olympia Sports Camp chronicles many of these stories. The book will be part of the weekend and for that I am thrilled. There will be a book launch at 4pm on the Saturday.

We can impact simply by being who we are and  what we do.  I saw a  quote recently in the acknowledgements section of a book  that really hit home on how impactful this writing process can be. The author was thankful for places he got to go and the people he got to meet while writing his book. The impact of the Tour Of Olympia book events takes me back to the Dave Talk where he used the lesson of the echo; what we send out we get back. The writing of A Hero's Journey: Beyond Little Norway and Olympia Sports Camp has been proof enough for me. I'm glad people are enjoying the stories of heroes gathered, but also thankful for the people whose sharing of their journeys made the book.

Yet another Olympian came to  me this week by way of a personal Facebook entry that I am being allowed to share. I was moved by this not just because of the kind words, but also the fact that it is proof of the impact we can have on others, often without even knowing it. You never know who is listening. I share this because as heroes we have a vehicle to influence others on their path, and that the return of the hero makes the whole process very gratifying.

While writing Can't Miss: The Kevin Pangos Story I was given the opportunity to speak at every Olympia opening ceremony one summer where I shared a little of Kevin's path of following a process and following a passion. One person in one of those crowds was impacted enough that 7 or 8 years later he felt inclined to send a brief note explaining the impact. It was something that he needed to say. That one person was Thierry Mayrand, an Olympian from 2015 to 2018. Thanks Thierry, and embrace the journey. I too hope we see each other again soon.

Hello Mr Dooley. Hope you are doing well. I wanted to reach out to you and thank you. I remember you from Olympia sports camp. I was a camper then a councillor. You’re story about kevin really resonated with me. You are one of the reasons why I decides to follow my lifelong dream of playing soccer professionally. I can’t thank you enough. I’m sure i am not the only kid you inspired. Hope we will see each other again one day.
