This past weekend Olympia Sports Camp celebrated its 50th Anniversary Reunion and the memories flowed in what was in many ways an emotional tribute to the thousands of counsellors, campers, and coaches who have added to the community that is Olympia, and a tribute to the architect of it all, Dave Grace. How wide-spread is this community of heroes that we call Olympia? There were many great moments throughout the weekend but to me this catches the Olympia vibe at a whole other level. This is Dave Grace and former senior staff and coach Rob Simmons. A good friend and Olympia legend Chris Orr had arranged with Rob to have a FaceTime with Dave from Kamloops, BC. I was so lucky to witness this 20 minute exchange as Chris expressed so much respect and love for Dave and everything Olympia and Dave was genuinely moved to be able to connect with Chris through the generous nature of Rob to set it up. A priceless memory. The weekend started with an opening ceremonies with the entire Olympia play

With Olympia Sports Camp celebrating its 50th Anniversary this weekend ( May 19-22) we were all given a classic reminder of the power of the Hero's Journey on Saturday as the  WNBA held its first-ever game in Canada. The event was an exhibition game but it was so much more than that. Yes, it was a game in a city that is poised to get an expansion franchise, and the city looked great as 19,000 fans filled the arena and the atmosphere was electric, but it was the makeup of that crowd that impressed me and gave me  direction of thought as I get ready for the anniversary. The atmosphere at Scotia Bank Arena, and the television coverage, captured the importance of mentoring and allies along our journey. I loved the look on the faces of so many young girls as they watched the professional women, especially Chatham, Ontario's own Bridget Carleton, play in front of their eyes in their hometown. And the WNBA players were in their glory, inspiring the next generation. Maybe a future WNB

The  50th Anniversary weekend  at Olympia Sports Camp is just around the corner (May 19-22) and should be a great reunion of many Olympia Heroes. The history of the camp is filled with stories of the impact that so many people have had on our journeys. The book A Hero's Journey: Beyond Little Norway and Olympia Sports Camp chronicles many of these stories. The book will be part of the weekend and for that I am thrilled. There will be a book launch at 4pm on the Saturday. We can impact simply by being who we are and  what we do.  I saw a  quote recently in the acknowledgements section of a book  that really hit home on how impactful this writing process can be. The author was thankful for places he got to go and the people he got to meet while writing his book. The impact of the Tour Of Olympia book events takes me back to the Dave Talk where he used the lesson of the echo; what we send out we get back.
