The Tour Of Olympia goes, and grows, through Allies Oh the people we get to meet on our journey. Jackie Zicaro has been an ally of mine for a very long time. She is actually an ally to many, because that is her life's direction and true passion. She is one of the coaches whose journey is explored in A Hero's Journey: Beyond Little Norway and Olympia Sports Camp . She is a highly successful teacher and coach in York Region. She is a National Level coaching course facilitator.  Jackie continues to model the hero's return and giving of her talents for the good of others. She coaches both of her daughters Taylor and Siera and runs skills sessions, camps and Girls Got Game programs in the Newmarket area. A hero on a journey. Her husband Joe is a successful ultimate frisbee coach and an honorary lady of leisure for week 7 at Olympia.  And I was lucky enough to have coached Jackie in high school. Impact others and you get impacted tenfold. I'm honoured to say that I knew her

This week, as we ramp up for the 50th anniversary and continue to spread the word about A Hero's Journey: Beyond Little Norway and Olympia Sports Camp we share the foreword to the book, beautifully written by former camper, former staff, and guest pro Leo Rautins. Leo's words capture the essence of the camp and the impact those years had on Leo and his career. Leo shows his great respect for Dave Grace and also his high school coach, Olympia original Dan Prendergast of St. Mikes.  A reminder also of the upcoming book events described last week. Sunday April 2 in Stratford and Sunday Apr. 16 in North York. Also, make sure you check out the 50th anniversary reunion planned for camp the long weekend in May, May 19-22. Hope to see many of you there. I turn this over to Leo. Like his words? They are echoed throughout the book   A Foreword for A Hero’s Journey I have had the great pleasure of being a part of Olympia since the beginning and I’ve seen it evolve into what it is toda

The Tour Of Olympia Ramps Up Save the dates and spread the word. The Tour Of Olympia is ramping up for the big 50th Anniversary Celebration of Olympia Sports Camp set for May 19-24. Olympia veterans have shown their support for our journey and we are looking forward to the book events that are like 'mini Olympia Reunions' as we head toward the biggest reunion in Olympia Sports Camp history.  Alumni can register for the May event at the following link:   https://olympiasportscamp.com/alumni-reunion-2023/ We love the fact that there are options for the weekend, where people can come for a day or stay for the weekend. A Hero's Journey: Beyond Little Norway and Olympia Sports Camp will be part of the festivities that weekend and on the Saturday there will be a presentation that captures the journey of the book, and the journey of the camp.  Much more information will be coming out about the May 24 long weekend in the coming weeks.   In the meantime, we are looking forward to a

The aspect of six degrees of separation that proves we are all connected comes out in support of A Hero's Journey: Beyond Little Norway and Olympia Sports Camp yet again. Let me explain. When I was a kid I grew up in Kitchener, Ontario and cousins of mine lived in Stratford, about a 40-minute drive down Highway 7. We spent family events either at the Dooley house or the Hansford house. As a result the cousins were very close, and remain so. We spent a lot of time in the Festival City. Still love the place, although as kids we always used to tease that we were from the 'big city' and Stratford was a hick town. Couldn't be farther from the truth. When I started to coach at Olympia and was able to bring Joy and our two children we would need babysitters to help us out when we went into town or, of course, we ventured to the coach's lounge. Two key sitters were Kim and Krista Hurley, daughters of coach Dave Hurley and his wife Diane. What a family atmosphere. Understa
