Allies along the way. Sometimes you find them, sometimes they find you. No matter how, you need them
Dave Grace is still in need of our help and you are encouraged to donate to the GoFundMe page. Here is the link so donate whatever you can.Thats what allies do. https://www.gofundme.com/f/help-dave-grace?qid=5c5cb61bda7e7a50c39c845437491600
Speaking of allies, let me introduce you to the world of the independent bookstore.
When I wrote Can't Miss: The Kevin Pangos Story I found an independent bookstore in Spokane Washington called Aunties bookstore. I dreamt while writing the book that someday my book would be for sale there. Doing better than that, when the book came out Kevin and I had an evening presentation in that very bookstore, and the place was jammed. I fell in love with the idea of independent bookstores. They know the grind of selling books and they have empathy for the grind that is writing books.
When I was looking for place in Burlington to sell my books, I came across A Different Drummer. Once I entered this beautiful store in downtown Burlington, I came across a new ally in owner Ian Elliot. Ian helped me figure out the nuances of selling in an independent store and we had a book launch there too.
With the release of A Hero's Journey: Beyond Little Norway and Olympia Sports Camp, I again turned to A Different Drummer. Ian was as helpful as before and I'm proud to be able to say that Hero's Journey is for sale at 513 Locust Street, just west of Brant St. Still pretty cool seeing your book on a shelf.
This weekend I will be having a book event at Perfect Books on Elgin St in Ottawa, on Sunday from 2-4pm. Another classic bookstore that is a great place to browse and this weekend a great place to hear all about Olympia.
If you have an independent bookstore you love, let's get a connection for Hero's Journey there. I'm not shying at all away from the big stores, and hopefully the book will be on sale there, but there is just something special about the independent stores. More information on store locations as they come up.
Another point about allies. Olympia gymnastics coach Linda Driscoll, part of the Olympia family for a long time and a strong advocate for coaching in this province, has been an ally and helped me set up another in what will be the TOUR OF OLYMPIA. I'm excited to have a signing event at the following location:
Big Guys Little Coffee Shop
2861 Lakeshore Blvd West
Etobicoke,Ont
Sunday Nov 13 from 1-3pm
Thanks Linda, and thanks to others working behind the scenes to help the Tour become a reality. Other sites will be announced shortly through Tuesdays With Dave as well as Facebook, Twitter and Instagram. So looking forward to the trip to Ottawa this weekend. See you next Tuesday!
